The atmosphere at Pierce is “comfortably structured.” The highly- qualified and dedicated staff works cooperatively with students and parents toward our goals of responsible citizenship and high academic achievement. As educational leaders in the 21st Century, we are committed to developing a learning community with a shared vision. That shared vision is to produce lifelong learners and responsible citizens through a commitment to continuous improvement and quality education. In order for this to be accomplished, parents and guardians must be encouraged and invited to be an integral part of the school community. Together, the school and community must work to foster the successful intellectual, emotional, and social growth of all young people.
A number of co-curricular activities and enrichment opportunities are available at Pierce. These include Board Game Club, Book Club, Chess Club, and Art Club. We also offer Pizazz choir, keyboard, intramurals, and musicals for all grades.
The PTA is very active with a wide variety of opportunities for volunteering.
Pierce Elementary opened on February 16, 1965 and added eight classrooms in 1968 due to overcrowding. Pierce’s accomplishments have been recognized with state and national awards. In 1987 the state of Iowa recognized them with the FINE award (First in the Nation in Education). In 1988 Pierce was cited by Elementary School Recognition Program of the US Department of Education for excellence in education. In 1996, 1997, 1998, 2001, and 2003 Pierce was the recipient of Iowa Arts Council Grants. Pierce was also recently honored to be named by the National PTA as a Parent Involvement School of Excellence.
