Pierce's accomplishments have been recognized with state and national awards. In 1987, the State of Iowa recognized our school with the FINE -- First in the Nation in Education -- award. In 1988, Pierce was cited by the Elementary School Recognition Program of the U.S. Department of Education for excellence in education. Pierce received this award for modeling exemplary effectiveness in educating students. In 1996, 1997, 1998, 2001 and 2003 Pierce was the recipient of major Iowa Arts Council Grants. Pierce recently was honored to be named by the National PTA as a Parent Involvement School of Excellence.
Pierce is an elementary school containing grades kindergarten through fifth. Each grade is comprised of three sections. Grades K-5 are self-contained classrooms with cross grade level teaming for special projects. Teachers and classroom spaces are organized together by grade levels. Specialists are employed in art, music, physical education, media, counseling, and learning disabilities.
The atmosphere at Pierce is "comfortably structured." Our highly qualified, dedicated staff cooperatively works with students and parents toward our goals of responsible citizenship and high academic achievement.
During this school year our staff, students, and parents will continue the tradition of excellence that has become synonymous with the name Pierce Elementary School.
